Claystone Terrace

2021 Chardonnay

Awards:

  • Silver (90) - Decanter 2023
  • Silver (90) - IWSC 2023

A soft, delicate, honied perfume of orchard fruit, even Stone fruit, yellow apples with nutmeg, almonds, and lychee. Rich on the palate with crisp acidity, the lush texture is packed with spice; cream; light truffled notes. There is a savoury stoniness in the mouth; a fine subtlety to this vintage: it finishes long and pure with a subtle, savoury grittiness.

Winemaker Notes

Welcome to the Renaissance of the Claystone Terrace single-vineyard wines! Both the Claystone Chardonnay and Pinot Noir blocks – like the Grand Clos blocks just a few hundred metres away - happen to both come from the extreme western side of the vineyard: a happenstance of aspect and geology.

- Thomas Bachelder

A savoury nose of classy fruit overtones, a perfumed marine savoury nose, a step more expressive and layered than the Jordan Village. Off the top, you can ‘feel’ the rocky, yellow plum stone fruit. In the mouth, complexed yellow apple and butter cream meld into striking but light aromas of fennel and aniseed, which themselves tuck into the dense, taut, satiny-long fruit finish.
